Walter Jones Obituary

WALTER REED JONES, affectionately known by his wife as "Mister" and to others as "Mr. J", "Wally'' and ''Walt'', was born on October 31, 1937 in Grenada, MS to the union of William (Bill) Jones and Mamie (Crowder) Jones. He was the second of three children. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mamie Crowder Jones; sister, Mary Catherine Scott; daughters, Kimberlan Cody-Henry, Donna Pringle; son, Patrick Cody. 


At the age of three, his family relocated to Peoria, Illinois and there he was nurtured and loved by his Uncle and Aunt,James and Bonnie Cartwright. 


Walter attended Peoria School District and graduated from Peoria Central High School in 1957. He also attended Bradley University and worked at Caterpillar, Inc. until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1961, where he served for three years. He relocated to St. Louis, MO in the mid 1960's. His employment history consisted of Carter Carburetor, Chrysler American Automotive, the Housing Urban Development/Laclede Town Management and Primerica Financial Services. 


He devoted his life to Christ in 1986 under the tutelage of Bishop Dwight H. McDaniels at San Francisco Temple C.O.G.I.C. where he was an active and faithful member. Walter served faithfully and touched many lives. He served as a greeter, a member of the Men of Standards of San Francisco Temple and attending to the sick and shut-in ministries. 


Walter was an avid competitive golfer with his team winning the First Sickle Cell Golf Classic in 1972. He also participated in many other tournaments including the Derby Brown Memorial and the 8th Annual Teamsters Golf Tournaments. He enjoyed sports, music, fellowshipping with his family and friends and his weekly recreational gatherings with his Kard Klub friends. 

Walter went to be with his Heavenly Father on October 5, 2019 in St. Louis, MO. He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his wife, Adrian A Jones; brother, Frank Hill (Ethel) Jones; children, Gil Oanet) Moody, Karen Allen, Latanya Reeves Jones, Mark (Deanna) Cody, Adrian (Darryl) Hunter, Rosalind (Randy) Veasley, Carlos (Heather) Cody, Lisa "Mae" (Carlos) Nichols; sisters-in-law, Regina Simpkins, Darlene (Randle) Smith, Arlene (Richard) Williams, Regina L. Simpkins and Barbara (Simpkins) Edwards; twenty five grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He also leaves special friends: Thomas (Beverly) Barsh, U.L. (Debbie) Woods, Camell Newburn, Deacon Robert Smith, Ronnie Williams, and Bobby.
