On April 19, 1948, Sylvester Bogan was born to the union of Reverend Peter Samuel Bogan and Frankie Newsom-Bogan. He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers: Nathaniel, Peter Samuel, Donald Gregory, Carl Vaughn, Charles Edward, and Steven; two sisters: Barbara Ann & Rochelle; one precious grandson Adrian; nephew Ronnie.
Sylvester received his education in the St. Louis Public School System. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. Sylvester was a very hard-working man who began his career as a newspaper boy at just ten years of age, later moving on to work in John’s Pharmacy as a cashier. As an entrepreneur, he owned ABC Records on North Kingshighway with his brothers. He mastered many tasks including cook, courier, truck driver, and carpenter. His greatest passion was carpentry. He graduated at the top of his class with an Associate Degree in carpentry from Southwestern Illinois College, achieving the title of Journeyman Carpenter.
Sylvester was united in marriage to Sharon A. McGruder on October 7, 1989. He was a loving, devoted husband.
Sylvester loved fishing, cooking, and watching every sport. Baseball was his favorite. He played on a winning team from Pruitt Igoe where they even got to play at Busch Stadium. His favorite team was the St. Louis Cardinals.
Sylvester recommitted to Christ in 2006 at Living Word Fellowship under the leadership of Pastor Lamarce Tart and was baptized.
Sylvester passed away peacefully on June 18, 2020 at Barnes Jewish Hospital with family by his side. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Sharon, sons Adrian Miller, Damon Batchman, Brandon Bogan; daughter, Ranada Brown; sisters Velma Bogan-Fowlkes, Cecile Bogan-Miller (Henry); grandchildren Breeonia, Ayanna, Madison, Barron, Leah; great grandson Amon; special niece Quiana and a host of family and friends.
