Reflections of a Life Well-Lived
Reverend Earl Butler was born March 19, 1941, in Dubbs, Mississippi to the union of Clare M. Hunley and Ben Butler. He was one of 13 children. His parents, seven sisters, Georgia, Ora, Eula, Minnie, Earnestine, Magnolia and Idessa, and four brothers, Jessie, Eddie B., James, and Willie, all preceded him in death.
Earl accepted Christ at an early age which he often talked about going on the mourner’s bench. He attended grade school while still living in Dubbs, Mississippi and later attended Tunica High School in Tunica County Mississippi until his family moved to Coldwater, Mississippi where he attended Fredonia High School.
He met and married Jimmie I. Newsom. They were married for over 50 and to their union three children were born, Pamela, Earl Lamont and Terry. He worked for Wagner Electric Co. for many years until the company relocated out of state. He was self-employed for thirty plus years until retirement.
In 1981, the Lord called him into the ministry. He attended Missouri Baptist University under the supervision and teaching of Dr. I.C. Peay, where he graduated with a degree in Theology. We united with Burning Bush M.B. Church, Grace of God M.B. Church and Clayton M.B. Church. One day while casually riding around, the Butlers discovered Family of Faith Church. They went inside to worship and after that initial experience, Earl, "This is my church home". He loved his pastor Dr. William Davis and the members and attended faithfully until his health failed. After battling an illness of debilitating deficiencies, the Lord called him home to rest with his wife and daughter by his side on Friday, October 20, 2023.
He leaves to cherish his life here with us. Wife: Jimmie l. (Newsom) Butler; daughter, Pamela Butler, two sons, Earl Lamont (Sandra) of St. Louis, MO and Terry (Dorothea) of Columbia, MO; two granddaughters, Alliyah and Alyssa Butler; one sister, Claretta (Jim) Higgenbottom of Chicago, IL; seven sisters in-law, and nine brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
