Susan Eva Petty was born January 23, 1951, to the union of Leo John Bland, Sr., and Mary Alice Gales. She attended Columbia Elementary and Middle School and Vashon High
School. She graduated from St. Louis Community College with a degree in nursing. For 35 years Suzie worked at Saint Charles Rehabilitation Center and was blessed to retire in 2002.
She gave her life to Jesus Christ and was baptized at an early age while attending Mt. Olive Baptist Church. As an adult, she was a longtime member of Lively Stone Pentecostal Church. ‘Suzie B’ was a caregiver by nature with a giving heart and warm spirit. She had an affectionate smile, and a charismatic personality and took great pleasure in helping others. She showed love and compassion to everyone she encountered.
Suzie loved music, singing, and dancing. Entertaining her family and friends was something she enjoyed. She also enjoyed riding in her car with the music blasting. That was her meditation. Sometimes you could hear her music before you could see her car, which made her popular in the neighborhood. People used to say “I C U SUE...” which prompted her to get personalized plates on her car!
Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Mary; her son, Wallace Sr.; grandson, Wallace Jr.; and two great- grandchildren, Zsaquise, and Jace.
She leaves behind: a son, Cedric Sr.; a daughter, Makeitra; siblings, Sandra, Lenora, John Jr., Kassell, Jackie, Brian, and Hazel; one aunt, Doretta; a sister-in-Christ, Yvonne Oda; grandchildren, Zsazekia (Kyle), Joshua, Sakeena, Cedric Jr., Wallisha, and Xavier; and great-grandchildren, Dontavion, Jaonna, Jerome IV, Journee, Jamayah, Justice, James III, Cedric III, Erin, Knowledge, Kendall, and Kash. Susie will be truly missed and will forever be in our hearts.
