Ms. Emmaline Jackson was bornJanuary 14, 1933 in Fort Necessity, Louisiana to the proud parents of Eugene Jackson and Lucille Cooper, who proceeded her in death. She was raised by her grandparents, Charlie and Emmaline Cooper, whom she was named after.
She graduated from Fort Necessity High School, where she later married Sam BrothersJr. To this union seven children were born.
Emma Lee, Emma or "Lady EB", as she was known to all, moved her family from Louisiana to St. Louis, Missouri in 1959. She was employed by National Supermarkets in 1972 where she worked in the cafeteria as a cook. She was later promoted to the warehouse where she was an order selector. She worked for National Supermarkets until she retired in 1995.
She professed her love for Christ at a young age and was a faithful member of Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church in Kinloch, Missouri. She later moved her membership to the A.M.E denomination, where her son-in-law Kenneth Griffin was the pastor. During the latter part of her life, she became a member of Third Presbyterian Church under the leadership of her grandson, Cedric A. Portis, Sr., where she served faithfully in the Kitchen Ministry. She was an excellent cook who was known for her famous peach cobbler and cornbread. She was affectionately called "grandma" by members in the Kitchen Ministry as well as by other members of the church.
She was a huge fan of Serena Williams and the St. Louis Cardinals. She also loved to fish. She had such an infectious laugh!
Emma Lee is proceeded in death by: her brothers General Johnson, Charlie Johnson, Elvis Johnson; and her sisters Gladys Cason, Carrie MacDonald, BelindaJoiner, Mildred Hyde, LucilleJohnson, and Elcille Brown.
She departed this life onJuly 28, 2021. She is survived by: her children Calvin Ray Brothers, Elaine Griffin (Kenneth), Bobby Brothers, Leroy Brothers, Annette Gordon, Claudette Richardson (Eddie) and Kenny Brothers; her sister Annie Wright and her brother McArthur Johnson. She also leaves to cherish her memory a "special" niece, EmmaJean Strickland, 21 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
