Dolores Yvonne Tyus, affectionately known as Dee Dee to some and Dee to others, was born on September 4, 1951, the only child of Trustee Tyus and Marguerite (Greene) Tyus. She was baptized into the Catholic faith as an infant. Later, she was baptized into the Baptist faith in February 2000 at Shalom Church (City of Peace) where she remained a faithful and devoted disciple.
Dee graduated from Beaumont High School in 1969, earned a BA degree in Management from Webster University in 1986, and a MA degree in Project Management from Keller Graduate School of Management in 2001. In June 1969, Dee began working at AT&T, Inc., retiring in November 2000 after a successful 31-year professional career. In January 2002, she began a second career with Shalom Church (City of Peace) in the administrative office where she remained until her passing. Dee loved to work and even more to be “in charge.”
Dee had one daughter, Traci. While from the outside looking in, it may have been difficult to tell as they often bantered with one another, Dee and Traci were extremely close and loved each other immensely. Though an only child, Dee was raised more like a sibling with her cousins and childhood neighbors.
On Sunday, September 27, 2020, exactly 25 years to the day of her mother’s passing, Dee made her transition to be with the Lord with her daughter by her side.
Dolores Yvonne Tyus was not just something… she was SOMETHING ELSE! There was not another like her… and never will there be again.
