Angela “Pooh Babi” Kabugu was born on August 27, 1994, in St. Louis, Missouri, to two proud African refugees, mother Rosa J. Freitas and father Francis K. Wambugu. She was the first American born child and was considered by her parents to be their “Gift to America!” Her African culture and community instilled in her a solid foundation and pride. Angela was the last born of five daughters and was the baby sister to Isabel, Luisa, Sandra, and Rita. She brought light to the family. Angela was raised Christian and lived with a purpose to spread joy to all she met.
Raised in Pillar Place Apartments, Angela followed her sister’s footsteps and attended Wyman Academy for grades kindergarten through eighth. She was also a very proud alumni of Vashon High School, graduating with the class of 2012, where she formed and sustained lifelong friendships.
Though Angela did not have biological children, she cared for and raised countless children who affectionately called her “TT Angie.”
On Tuesday, June 21, 2022, Angela left us, and our lives have been forever changed. She had so much love to give and leaves behind a legacy of LOVE, COMPASSION, and a spirit of CELEBRATION. So, as we remember “Pooh Babi,” we do not mourn, but rejoice and celebrate that we all now have a guardian angel. Angela was preceded in death by her aunt, Laurinda Mwanza.
Angela’s legacy of love, compassion, and celebratory spirit will live on in: her parents, Rosa J. Freitas and Francis K. Wambugu; sisters, Isabel Sebastiao, Luisa Sebastiao, Sandra Freitas-Williams, and Rita S. Freitas; her nephew, Trinen D.F. Williams; niece, Trinity N.F. Williams; and a host of other relatives and friends.
