Obituary

A Beautiful Woman With A Beautiful Life

Joann (Durham) Harris was the second of three children born to the union of Joecephus and Jennie Durham. Her father, Joecephus, older brother, John, and husband, Ronald Harris, preceded her in death.

JoAnn was educated in the St. Louis public school system, attending Carr Lane Elementary and O’Fallon Technical High School, Class of 1968. Following high school, she attended Forest Park Community College graduating as a Laboratory Technician. JoAnn’s employment started as a Science Technologist at Mallinckrodt that lasted for over 20 years. After leaving Mallinckrodt, she was employed by A M & Associates Sales/ Luster Products as a Sales Representative/Merchandiser, Enterprise Leasing, and later tutored  for the St. John Community Improvement Corporation. She was also co-owner of Lydia’s Trading for at least three years with friends, Arthurine Hunter and Mickey  Thomas.

JoAnn united in holy matrimony to Ronald Harris on September 14, 1974, and this union became a blended family with their children, Jerald, Derrick, Nicole, and Brandon.

JoAnn accepted Christ and became a devoted member of New Sunny Mount Missionary Baptist Church while Reverend Donald Hunter was Pastor and continued her devotion under Pastor Dr. Brandon Blake. She served in many capacities: Trustee Board, Pastor’s Choir, Pastor’s Aide, and Family Support Group (food pantry). She was also a member of the Caring & Sharing Program under the leadership of Luther Boykins and Joe Bergfeld which partnered with New Sunny Mount Missionary Baptist Church to provide community outreach. JoAnn also served as a member of the Mildred  Times Foundation for many years.

JoAnn was known by her many friends for her love for fashion, chic style, and vibrant colors and was asked o en for fashion and decorating advice.

JoAnn enjoyed and shared many special moments with her God-chosen Sister-Friends, Sandra Jean Jones, Arnetta Coleman, Brender Benson, Valerie Granger, Arthurine Hunter, Lillie (Mickey)  omas, Pamela Singleton, and Debra Berry. JoAnn also loved the monthly gatherings with her birthday club called the “Birthday Bunch.”

JoAnn leaves to cherish her memory: her children, Jerald Harris of St. Louis, MO, Derrick Harris of St. Louis, MO, Nicole Harris Bentley of Atlanta, GA, and Brandon (Ashley) Harris of Park Hills, MO; mother, Jennie Durham of St. Louis, MO; one brother, Jerix Durham of St. Louis, MO; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Durham of St. Louis, MO; eight grandchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
