Reflections in the Life of A Beautiful Soul, Hattie Green, Our Queen
Mrs. Hattie Mae Green was the third of six children born on July 3, 1936 to Callie Mae Clay and Oliver Coleman. Her mother, father, two older brothers, Don Anderson and Lee Henry Austin, and her youngest brother, James Clay, all preceded her in death.
Hattie had a seasonal education in Mississippi only allowing her to complete eighth grade. Her limited educational background did not hinder her from working tirelessly to further improve her knowledge and skills. She focused on cooking, dressmaking, improving her grammar, and cake decorating. These skills allowed her to improve her life and the lives of her children.
Hattie demonstrated her strong work ethic by doing “Day” work, housekeeping, and working over 30 years at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft/Boeing. She took pride in helping to build the F18 Hornet fighter jets.
Hattie was united in holy matrimony to Adam C. Green, March 26, 1955 in Mississippi, later moving the family to Kinloch, Missouri in 1956. Her husband preceded her in death. Born and raised from this union were six children. Three boys and three girls.
Hattie accepted Christ at an early age at Christian Grove Baptist Church in Pickens, Mississippi. Later she joined Coleman Temple CME Church in Kinloch, MO under the pastorship of Gene Williams and later followed him over to Murchison Tabernacle CME Church. At church, you would find Hattie in the Soprano section of the choir. Hattie definitely believed that with GOD, ALL things were possible and that her children should be raised in the church.
Hattie was known for her quick-witted sense of humor, big friendly smile, her caring nature, and her famous down-home caramel cakes. She loved growing beautiful flowers, talking on the phone, relaxing on her deck, her Cadillac, and spending time with her family.
Hattie leaves to cherish her memory: Christine, Fred (Benetta), Harrington, Sharon, Fina, and Timothy. Her siblings: Lillie Tucker of Chicago, Ill, and Tommie Coleman (Nan) of Atlanta, GA. Her Grandchildren: Shatonya, Arthur, Darnell (Keila), Sharnette, Timyra, Tara, Keyundra and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
