Emma Lee Booker, a life-long resident of Indianapolis, Indiana, died on Friday, July 23, 2021 at the young age of 92 years old in St. Louis, Missouri. She was born April 27, 1929 in Covington, Tennessee to Arthur and Monteen (Blakenship) Taylor. Both parents preceded her in death.
Emma was educated in the Indianapolis School system and obtained her high school diploma. She married Floyd Booker and he also preceded her in death.
Emma, affectionately known as "Granny," was a devoted mother and grandmother who was the Matriarch of our family. Granny owned and operated her own business, 'Emma's Cleaning Service,' up until her move to St. Louis, Missouri in 2015.
Granny was an active member of the True Belief Baptist Church where she was awarded The Golden Girls award that she cherished with all her heart. Granny was a woman of God and was involved in many church activities at True Belief Baptist Church including serving on the women's committee, acted as nurse to those in need, and was a faithful and devoted usher. She enjoyed the casino, traveling, and just hanging out with the Golden Girls at Ryans or Red Lobster for lunch or dinner.
In addition to her parents and husband, Granny was also preceded in death by her son, Billy Johnson and daughter, Marilyn Jones; grandchildren, Eddie Jones and Jonice Johnson; and her fur baby Pearl.
Granny Emma leaves to cherish precious memories with her children, Linda Johnson (St Louis, MO), Lillie Booker (Indianapolis, IN) and Willie Taylor (Cincinnati, OH); Grandchildren, LaJoy Andrews-Dabney (St. Louis, MO) and Cherie Thompson, Sylvia Booker, Betty Johnson, David Johnson, Matonya Johnson, and Stephen Stith all of Indianapolis, IN; and a host of great and great-great grandchildren and friends. Granny will be deeply missed by her family and friends and all who knew and loved her.
