Debra Yvette Benson-Watson was born April 2, 1962, in St. Louis, Missouri to the union of Robert Benson and Yvonne Bradford. She was the younger sibling of two from this union; Beverly Knight being the oldest.
Debra was educated in the St. Louis Public Schools in her early years in south city at Wyman Elementary. In her teen years she decided to go the trade route and attend St. Louis Job Corp. It was at Job Corp where she met her first love, Kevin Flenoid, Sr. From that union Debra gave birth to two boys: Kevin (1979) and Karon (1983).
Debra’s huge heart and welcoming personality earned her countless friends over the years. She learned early that she wanted to be around people and make them smile, make them happy, or just give them a moment of relaxation, so she became a bartender. Everyone from Nikki’s to Kelly’s (lounges), knew that they were going to have a great evening if she was working. Debra’s love to serve and truly care about everyone she encountered, made it hard for people not to love her back. She was generous, loving, hilarious, beautiful, and gave unselfishly of herself. There was never a dull moment with her, and she took pride in making her loved ones smile during holidays at her house and being able to feed just about the whole block and then some. She had the ability to make anyone feel like family.
Debra found love again in the later years of the 1990’s with Mr. Terry Watson. He was the right man; in the right time for her. In June of 2005 they got married. It was with Terry who she spent the rest of her life with. Through all the ups and downs that come with relationships she knew the love that she shared with him was reciprocated.
Debra was preceded in passing by her mother, Yvonne Robinson (Bradford), her aunt Ella Scales, and cousins Marquia Lewis and Renee Turner just to name the most recent. She leaves to cherish in her memory: her father, Robert Benson; her loving husband Terry Watson; two sisters, Beverly Knight and Barbara Chaney; two sons, Kevin (Tamara) Flenoid, Jr., and Karon (Tiffany) Flenoid; four grandchildren, Kevi’Yonna Flenoid, Keion Flenoid, Elijah Flenoid, and Trinity Flenoid; special sisters, Loraine Barnes and Cathy Allen-Brown; special cousin, Sylvia Staples; special daughters, Enjoli Wilson and Najla Pendleton; extended grandchildren, Kevion and Alencia Pendleton, Allen Vaughn, and Kendra and SirJohn Cole; niece and nephew, Mercedes and Bernard Stackhouse Jr., and a host of cousins ( Mary, Darrin, Gwen, Terrance, Kathy to name a few), nieces, nephews, and friends.
