Mr. Rodney Sharp, Sr. Obituary

Rodney Durelle Sharp, Sr., aka “Roy,” was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on February 9, 1959, to Sadie (Gillespie) Sharp and Odie V. Sharp. He was one of ten siblings in a blended family. Rodney accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and was preceded in death by William Howell.

Rodney met the love of his life in his later years, Miriam Carter, and they were united in marriage on February 10, 2018. Together, they were blessed with a beautiful, blended family of seven children and 17 grandchildren.

It was truly love at first sight as Rodney loved Miriam from the first moment he saw her at the All-Class Berkeley Reunion in 2017. He would sing to her this song by Smokey Robinson, “You know that I’m swept for you, baby. And it’s time you were told. Yeah, I’m swept for you, baby. Way down deep in my soul. The first time that I saw you, you stood out from the crowd. Looking so good and walking so proud wanted to say as you passed my way. You know that I’m swept for you, baby, ah yeah.” In this short time, Rodney and Miriam built a lifetime of memories. There’s a saying, “It’s better to have been loved than to never knew love at all,” and Rodney and Miriam lived their “happily ever after” in love
with the love they found and had for each other.

Rodney was employed at St. Louis County Public Works and was a skilled master craftsman. Rodney’s greatest achievement and legacy that will live forever is the school he and his wife opened in 2021, “Essential NA Academy,” where they were able to educate and train CNA’s. Their efforts helped improve the lives of both the workers and patients they cared for in the healthcare industry.

Rodney had a passion for traveling, dancing, singing, and making people happy. If you knew him, you knew his heart was as big as his head and even this world. He was a very hard worker, dedicated, generous, and responsible man who was loved by all.

Rodney leaves to cherish his loving memories to: his devoted and beautiful wife, Miriam Sharp; mothers, Sadie Russell and Odie Sharp; children, Rodney Sharp, Jr., Adrian Sharp-Parker, Maurice (Lakin) Sharp, Michal Carter, Marcus Carter, Heather (Ollice Sr.) Carter-Mack, Demetrius Watts, and Marquis Carter; siblings, Michael (Monique) Sharp, Franklin (Barbara) Sharp, Victor (Veronica) Sharp, Theresa (William) Bell, Veronica Thornton, William (Janice) Sharp, Phillip (Agnus) Patton, Phyllis Patton, and Lamont (Shikitha) Russell; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends.
