Reflections of His Journey
Lee Manuel Flanigan, Sr., was the fifth child born to the union of Deathers Flanigan, Sr., and Minnie Rae Flanigan on February 22, 1943. They preceded him in death along with five siblings - Delores, Victor, Deartis, Marvin, and Marcella.
He was educated in the St. Louis Public School system. After graduating from Hadley Technical High School, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. He served his country for four years. He had tours of duty in South Asia in the Philippines and Okinawa, Japan. He earned the rank of Lance Corporal.
In 1967 he married Martha Carpenter and she preceded him in death August 29, 2011. A son Divan Cockrell also preceded him in death.
He was employed with Missouri Department of Mental Health as a Psychological Aid for 26 years.
Lee was baptized in Jesus’ name and received the gift of the Holy Ghost in October 2011 at Bethesda Temple Church of the Apostolic Faith under the leadership of the late Bishop James A Johnson. Lee enjoyed praising and worshipping God and the preaching and teaching of our current Pastor Suffragan Bishop Julian Johnson. One thing Lee talked about was how much he loved being a brother in the body of Brotherhood.
Lee was United in Holy matrimony to Clarice Shipp on January 26, 2012. On Sunday morning March 19, 2023 Lee transitioned from Earth to Glory.
He leaves to Cherish his memory, his loving wife Clarice Flanigan whom he affectionately called "His Honey"; his siblings Dorothy Flanigan, Chicago IL, Deathers Flanigan, Jr., St. Louis, MO, Mary (John) Keys, Houston TX, and Mickey (Ida) Flanigan, St. Louis, MO; His in-laws Linda Childs St. Louis, MO, Jerome Shipp, Marie, CA, and Houston (Loretta) Shipp, Pacific, MO; Children Natalie Flanigan (Ronald) McCoy, TX, Lisa Flanigan, St. Louis, MO, Stephanie Atkinson, St. Louis, MO, Kimberly (Terry) Grooms, St. Louis, MO, Lee Flanigan, Jr., St. Louis, MO, Rochelle (Henry) Chandler, St. Louis, MO, Tracy Cockrell, St. Louis, MO, Cheryl Phillips, St. Louis, MO; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends, and a special group of friends referred to as "The Round Table Crew".
