Henry Bruce Rogers ("Bruce-Bruce") was born November 19, 1958, in St. Louis, Missouri. He was the firstborn child of Shirley Jean Bonner and Michael Hill, and stepfather, Fred Bonner (deceased). As the oldest child, he took the reins as a second father to his six siblings born after him.
Henry was very family-oriented, an excellent father, extremely generous in providing aid and assistance to any-and-everyone, sympathetic and understanding, caring and helpful, courageous, loyal and passionate, a very responsible individual, a great listener, and had a laugh that would knock your socks off.
Henry was educated in the St. Louis Public School System of St. Louis, Missouri. He immediately went into the United States Army, serving his country for several years and later obtaining an honorable discharge. Henry once mentioned that he loved the Army because it was an honor to fight for his country; it obtained the respect and love from fellow citizens and brothers-in-arms; it provided great opportunities for him and his family; and it also nurtured, reared, and taught him discipline.
Henry enjoyed working as a self-contractor on commercial and residential properties. He also enjoyed cooking gourmet meals for strangers, friends, neighbors, and family. Most importantly, he focused the majority of his time helping others in need. Some of his generosities consisted of providing food, beverages, and shelter; cutting and trimming lawns; and repairing motor vehicles.
Henry married Ruby Helms (Rogers) on April 1, 2002. To this union, Tyanna, Tammy, and Saadi blended into the family unit, along with Henry’s children, Joseph (“Jo-Jo”), Victoria, Bruce, Daniel, and Anthony.
Henry leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 19 years, Ruby Helms Rogers; three daughters, Victoria, Tyanna, and Tammy; five sons, Joseph (“Jo-Jo”), Bruce, Daniel, Anthony, and Saadi; 26 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his mother, Shirley Bonner; six siblings, Tony, Walter, Shirley, Yvonne, Rosetta, and Sha’Ron; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, other relatives, and many, many, many friends. Bruce-Bruce will truly be missed!
