ELIJAH NEWMAN, born Mohammed Alhassan, was born in Terna, Ghana on August 15, 1975. He was the middle child born of two brothers and two sisters to loving parents, Alhassan Mahama and Amaama Alhassan.
As a child, growing up in Community 8, Elijah was a very special young boy who was gifted with a level of high intelligence. He alway$ was questioning and challenging the status quo to better understand issues and become more enlightened. At an early age, Elijah realized that he was a leader not a follower.
In 1992, Elijah completed Junior High School at Anum Memorial Preparatory School. Due to his intelligence, he obtained Prefectships and was assigned several school responsibilities. Before completing school, he was the Boy's School Prefect. After finishing Junior High School, he had distinction and got admission in the Presbyterian Boys' Senior High School (PRESEC) at Legon where he studied the sciences. In 1995, Elijah completed (PRESEC) with distinction but due to financial constrains he could not attend the University to study medicine.
Elijah, rightly named himself after the great prophet from the scriptures Elijah. He always had uncanny insight that led him to being industrious and having an entrepreneur spirit. In 2005, Elijah started an Information Technology (IT) company called, Everest Logistics. He offered all aspects of computer tech support such as computer programming, network administration support and remote desktop support. Everest Logistics was his pride and joy. If Elijah was asked, why the name Everest? He would say, "Everest the highest mountain." He always strived to be the best and at the top.
On April 24, 2008, Elijah and Lisa A. Brown were wed in holy matrimony at Kowa Naso Hotel, Terna Metropolitan Assembly, Ghana. He later joined his wife in the United States in June 2011.
With his wife's support and encouragement, he furthered his education by attending DeVry University in North Brunswick receiving his diploma in Information Technology (IT). He worked for various companies and· organizations utilizing his IT skills at various levels.
With his wife's support, Elijah was able to continue his company, Everest Logistics; while developing two other companies named, Everest De-Good Shepard and Budatinment based in Ghana. Lisa never waivered in her support and commitment to Elijah's dreams of success in America.
Once here in the US, the miles did not lessen his love and commitment to his family in Ghana. He worked hard and endlessly to send support to his family and to his children to the US. Elijah always said, "My father is my best friend, and I worship my mother." The distance did not stop him from helping his children with their studies which he made a priority in their lives. He would buy the same books they used for school and set up a blackboard to teach and tutor them. His children were his heart and soul.
Elijah made another milestone in January 2020, when he became a United States Citizen. In November 2020, he visited his family in Ghana after 10 years and was so very happy to see how they had flourished. In March 2021, seeking new opportunities, Elijah moved to St. Louis. He was working for Lyft Transportation Services when his life came to a tragic end all too soon.
Elijah is now with his father, Alhassan Mahama, in glory. He leaves to cherish many loving memories and laughs, his wife, Lisa A. Newman in New Jersey; two sons, Joseph and Ismael in Terna Ghana; three daughters, Abigail and Bethel in Terna, Ghana; and Olivia in Neptune, NJ; two sisters, Ayisha Alhassan and Amina Alhassan; two brothers, Yahubu Alhassan and Salifu Alhassan all in Terna, Ghana; a host of loving relatives and friends; and his trust friend and brother, Yusi£ Umar in New York.
