Mr. Earlee Whiting Obituary

Earlee Whiting was born on December 14, 1963, in Senatobia, Mississippi, to Florida Mae (Whiting) Woodruff. Earl was the oldest of four children, and big brother to Jeanette, Janice, and Wallace.

He accepted Christ at an early age. As an adult, he joined Prince of Peace Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Willie E. Kilpatrick, who wedded Earl and his wife, Hollis, in holy matrimony on August 23, 2008. Earl and Hollis later joined Ark of Safety Christian Church in St. Charles, Missouri, under the leadership of Pastor Raymond D. Horry and Minster Kathy D. Horry.

Earl grew up in Berkeley, Missouri, where he attended Berkeley High School. Earl was the 1982 3A triple jump champion, helping carry the Berkeley High Track Team to their first state championship and starting the Berkeley Dynasty Track Team. After high school, Earl attended Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, on a track scholarship; he became an All-American. In 1985, Earl was a member of the track and field team NCAA Division II indoor champions. He pledged Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., in the spring of 1984.

The fundamental purpose of Kappa Alpha Psi is achievement. Earl exemplified this whether on the track, in the classroom, or within the community. Whenever he returned from track meets, he would always catch up with his brothers to see where he was needed.

After graduation from SEMO, he returned to Berkeley to teach and coach track for several years, helping them win more state titles. He also coached basketball at McCluer High School. Earl loved children and loved pouring knowledge in them to help them excel in life. He was a true teacher at heart.

Earl was self-employed for many years operating his business Cloud 9 while working a full-time job. He named his business Cloud 9 because he said you would be so in awe of the finished
project that you’d feel like you’re on cloud nine. Earl and Hollis united in holy matrimony on August 23, 2008. They met at a job fair in 1995 at the Hilton in Frontenac. Hollis wore a blue dress with white polka dots. After a few dates, Earl later told her that he told himself that he was going to connect those dots. Earl pursued Hollis from 1995 to 2006.

They became good friends over the years, and their friendship eventually blossomed into love. Earl said it took him a while to make his move because he thought she was out of his league, yet he liked climbing trees and said that was a tree he was definitely going to climb. Proverbs 18:22 says, “Whoso findeth a wife, findeth a good thing and obtains favor of the Lord.”

Earl found his good thing... Hollis. And she found her Mr. Magic.

On Saturday, June 18, 2022, at 10:50 PM, Earl completed his final earthly project.

Earl was true and dedicated to his family and friends and was a man of great integrity. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for anyone.

Earl leaves to cherish his memories: his loving and devoted wife of fourteen years, Hollis R. Whiting; son, Jason Whiting; mother, Florida Woodruff; siblings, Jeanette (Alfred) Boyd, Janice Mae Whiting, and Wallace Lee Woodruff; mother- in-law, Delores Scales; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Clarence Scales, Jr., Kirk Scales, Stacey (Poncho) Scales, Yolanda Scales, and Thurston (DJ) Scales; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, other relatives, and friends.

He was a loyal employee for Kroger, Hostess Brands, and Job Corps, yet his passion was home improvement and remodeling.
