Mr. Alfred Roach Obituary

ALFRED LLOYD ROACH was born November 12, 1932 in Seguin, Texas to Ellsworth Lincoln Roach and SamElla Richardson. A determined, young man, excelling in his studies while playing sports, he worked summers earning money for school supplies and clothing. Alfred was chosen by a local pharmacist to help in his drugstore and delivered medicines to patients on his bicycle. This began his desire to pursue a career in medicine.

Alfred attended Texas Southern University, School of Pharmacy, where he graduated with honors in the 1950' s. After graduation he was drafted into the United States Army, where he served for 3 years. He remained in the field of pharmacy until his retirement in 2003. Alfred dedicated over 50 years to serving the black community through medicine in Yeatman Community Health Center, DePaul Hospital and Grace Hill Clinic. Alfred had a quote that he would share and even stated that he wanted it to be the slogan of his homegoing. "If the medicine must run through, Lord send me."

One of Alfred's favorite pastimes was golfing, where he placed in several tournaments and was featured in the daily newspaper as a champion winner. Alfred also enjoyed traveling with family and faithfully watching news and sports programming, especially Texas football. Alfred could also be described as a "history buff" and took an interest in collecting books and magazines on various areas of social studies.

During his post retirement years, Alfred spent a dedicated amount of time volunteering for Divine Revelation of Christ Church's clothing ministry, delivering bags of clothes to those in need weekly.

Alfred spent his latter years traveling on the road and in the air with family, taking frequent trips shopping at Walmart and participating in local events around St. Louis, surrounded in love by close family.

Alfred leaves to cherish his memory four children: Kirwin (Shirley) Roach, St. Louis, MO, Ava Fletcher, Houston TX, Mr. Trenton (Betty) Roach, Houston TX, and Ms. Alex Roach, St. Louis MO; brothers, Reginald and Jerry Roach; sisters, Sandra Roach, Elaine Barrett, and Mrs. Mary Cottrell; twelve grandchildren; two brothers-in law, two sisters-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to his parents, Alfred is preceded in death by his brother, John Wilson and sister, Emma Jean Wilson.
