Mother Louise E. Moreland was born on December 25, 1929, to the proud parents Mr. Oliver Lucious Sr. and Mrs. Leola Roberts Lucious of Artesia, Mississippi Oktibbeha County (Oktibbeha County was originally a part of the lands belonging to the Choctaw Indians). To their union, Mother Evalina Louise Moreland, and Oliver Lucious Jr. were born. Both her parents and brother preceded her in death.
Mother Moreland's early childhood education began in the Starkville, Mississippi school system. She moved to Saint Louis, Missouri in the 1940s, and attended Washington Technical School (formerly the Franklin School). She married Andrew Moreland on November 11, 1951, in Saint Louis, Missouri. To their union fourteen children were born. Mother Moreland took an interest in healthcare and pursued a career as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA). She worked at City Hospital No.1, Malcolm Bliss Mental Hospital, Mother of Good Counsel Nursing Home, and Jewish Hospital where she retired after many years of service. Mother Moreland was very dedicated to her career and enjoyed her time working.
Mother Moreland was baptized in Jesus' name and filled with the Holy Ghost in the late 1950s, at Bethesda Temple Church of the Apostolic Faith (Union and Page Location in Saint Louis, Missouri) under the leadership of the late Bishop James A. Johnson. She served at Bethesda Temple Church of the Apostolic Faith for many years. Both Mother Moreland and her husband Andrew Moreland Sr. had a calling on their lives. Mother Moreland would bring speakers to Saint Louis for Revival, and would often open her home to guests, and provided lodging and warm meals for the speakers. Throughout the years God would move the family to various churches to fellowship including Shining Light Pentecostal Church (Pastor Griffin) and Pentecostal Power Church (Bishop McMichael, Elder Hawkins, and the Honorable Bishop Charles Webb).
Mother Moreland was a beautiful, faithful, patient, and wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She would prepare daily meals for her family, tend to other household needs, and then leave to work a 3 p.m. -11 p.m. shift (sometimes she would even work a double shift until the morning). Mother Moreland wanted her children and grandchildren to live in a clean and decent home, filled with lots of love, laughter, and home-cooked meals.
Mother Moreland was known for having a repertoire of many sayings including: "Always Keep God first", "There is two sides to every story", "Love each other", "It's nice to be nice", "Seldom visits, makes best .. friends", "Keep what you have clean", and the most popular "I'm going to see the duck take water". She loved the Lord and prayer, and fasting was no stranger to her. Mother loved to sing, and she was always ready to sing praises unto the Lord. Some of her favorite songs included: "Lord I Just Want to Thank You", "Just Another Day", and "I Will Fly Away". Whatever she could do to help someone, she would do it without hesitation. Mother Moreland was a servant of the Lord.
Mother Moreland was preceded in death by her husband Mr. Andrew Moreland Sr., six of her children (Phillip Moreland, Melvin Moreland, Jerome Moreland, Lisa Moreland, Anthony Moreland and Windell Moreland), and grandsons (Anthony Hill and Christopher Dodson Jr.).
Mother Evalina Louise Moreland departed this life at 10:43 p.m. on July 10, 2021, at Mercy Hospital located in Saint Louis, Missouri.
