Mother Katherine Phillips Obituary

KATHERINE E. PHILLIPS, affectionately called "Kat", was born October 19, 1931 to the union of Orbie Gailes, Sr., and Gertrude (NMI - Moore) Gailes (Hogue). Her birthplace was Jonesboro, Arkansas, but she was raised in St. Louis, Missouri.

She was a hard and talented worker and had a career that spanned 35 years at Leader Manufacturing as a lead seamstress. She valued time spent with family and friends and cooking and baking were her passion.

Kat accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Pleasant Green Baptist Church where she was a faithful member of the choir and a dedicated member of the Mary Hayden Singers Group. She later received the baptism of the Holy Ghost and joined Lively Stone Church of God where she was a dedicated and faithful member for over 40 years. She was a member of the Mass Choir and the Senior Choir and served as president for a period of time. She also contributed her time assisting in the kitchen on many occasions. As her health began to decline, she attended services with her daughter at Sincere Worship Church which she enjoyed so well. She used her talents at Sincere Worship cooking for the "Let's Talk" Ministry where her daughter, Minister Kathy Phillips, served as overseer.

Kat had so many talents and she used them all in the Kingdom. She served on the Board of Directors at PCAC, danced with the group Jolly Jesters, was an actress in many plays and a very anointed solo singer.

Her deepest passion was cooking for others and no one went hungry in her presence. Her door was always open, and her table was always set.
Preceding her in death were her parents, one sister, Gloria Jean; three brothers, Michael Gales, Sr., Orbie 'Jerry" Gailes, Jr., and William "Baby Brother" Gailes; one granddaughter, Robin Seals.

She leaves to cherish memories her only daughter, Kathy Phillips; two sons, Ronald Seals and Steven Seals; one brother, Roderick Gailes, Sr.; stepfather, Hardy Hogue; four granddaughters, Amber, Brandy, Stephanie and Trina; one grandson, Johnathan, many cousins, church family and friends. She also leaves cherished memories with her special extended loved ones - Goddaughter, Veronica White; best friend, Pam Frison; caregiver, Susie; spiritual daughter, Jeannie Graham; and dear to her heart, Pastor Patrick Reel; and one bonus daughter, Millicent Williams.

When Katherine made her transition, she was not alone. Her daughters, Kathy and Millicent, and her son, Steven, were by her side. God peacefully called her without a sign of struggle as she slept away.
