Minister Sydney Reid-Bush Obituary

SYDNEY DANIELLE REID-BUSH was born on September 12, 1975, to her loving parents, Chester Reid, Jr., who preceded her in death, and Rita Reid. Sydney was the only daughter born to this union. At an early age, she was a very precocious child who loved to read, dance, and sing.

Sydney was a product of the Hazelwood school district and graduated from Hazelwood East High School in 1994. As a Spartan, she was very active in school activities, her favorite being music. She performed in the Concert Choir, Girls’ Choir, Show Choir, and the Voices of Youth Gospel Choir. Upon high school graduation, she briefly attended the University of Memphis before obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Harris-Stowe State University in 2001.

Sydney was ready now to pursue her life-long goal, that of teaching. Her career path led her to teach in various districts, including St. Louis Public Schools, Jennings, and Riverview. She was a third grade teacher at Jury Elementary, in the Hazelwood School District, at the time of her passing. Her love for teaching went beyond the classroom. She would often call and text her students to help them improve and excel in their schoolwork.

Sydney was baptized in Jesus’ name and received the gift of the Holy Ghost at Greater Grace Church in 1991, under the leadership of Bishop Larry O. Jones. During her Pentecostal journey, she was involved in several ministries: Women’s Ministry, Youth Ministry, several choirs, and many more. Her greatest accomplishment was receiving her Certificate of Completion and Endorsement of Prophetic Ministry from the Protege’s Prophetic Institute, under the leadership of Pastor Marcus Mickles.

On July 18, 1998, Sydney married her high school sweetheart, Turner Bush III, who also preceded her in death. To this union, three children were born: Turner IV (TJ), whom Sydney said was the one who “affectionately made her a mom,” Madysen (Mady), the spitting image of her loving husband, and Kynnedi (Kyn Kyn), her unexpected blessing. They were truly the joy of her life. She also shared a special bond with her “lil” brother, Chet. She was his best friend, protector, and confidant.

Sydney loved attending church, from listening to anointed sermons, to the benediction, to after-church festivities. She often closed out services, as well, at restaurants. At home, Sydney enjoyed a house full of company. She always had something cooking on the stove...or in the oven...or on the grill...or on speed-dial. A good meal was then followed by a movie, then by a game of Spades, but something would often happen during the card game; the participants would break out into songs of praise and worship, complete with three-part harmony and perfect pitch.

Sydney was a compassionate and caring person who leaves to mourn: her three children, TJ, Mady, and Kyn Kyn; her dear mother, Rita Reid; her brother, Chet Reid (Sonya); her half-sisters, Melonie Irving (Glenn) and Lee Ann Metaweh; aunts, Kathy Kirksey, Ola Mae Pennington (Earl), Cynthia Reid, and her favorite aunt, Cheryl Hester; uncles, Donnell Reid, Andrew Reid (Cheryl), and Melvin Reid (Geraldine); brothers-in-law, Joseph Bush, Robert Turner III, and Ezell Bush; sisters-in-law, Mary Bush, Carol Bush, and Carmen Turner-Johnson; in addition to many other cherished loved ones, family members, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends who were blessed to know her. Rest well, dear Sydney, you made it!! Thank you for the wonderful memories you have given us. Until we meet again...
