Mary Johnson Obituary

MARY FRANCIS JOHNSON was born January 18, 1934 in Enondale, Mississippi to the late Johnnie and Willie Teretha Casson. She was the eighth child of twelve children born to this union. Her parents and siblings, Cleo Taylor, twins James and Johnnie Casson, Stella Steele, Birda Mae Brown, Ivenell Horton, Queen Esther McNeil, Willie Teretha Thompson, Willie Pearl Brookshire, Shirley Jean Casson, Robert Marshall Casson, and her grandson, Dontori Johnson preceded her in death.

Mary attended Keys Chapel School in Enondale, Mississippi.

Mary confessed a hope in Christ at an early age at Keys Chapel Methodist Church.

In 1951, Mary came to St. Louis, Missouri to be with the rest of her siblings. After coming to St. Louis, Missouri, she later was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Clyde  Johnson.  To  this union no children were born.

Mary attended church at St. Paul M.B. Church, Greater Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, and Praise Tabernacle Christian Center, all under the leadership of Bishop E. Dwight Casson. She served faithfully  on the Pastor's Aide and Health Unit.

She later met and fell in love with Willie T. Sykes and from this union two children were born, Carolyn Jeanette Sykes and Glenn C. Sykes.

Mary was employed with Kaufman Lunch Company, her first job after coming to St. Louis, Missouri, US Wiping Company, Gentle Care Home Health, Praise Tabernacle Child Development Center, and she retired from Plastic Molding.

Mary was well liked by everyone who knew her. She was a hard worker and would help anyone who was in need. She loved cooking and inviting people over for family gatherings. She was a stickler for you eating everything on your plate. We will never forget that smile and the phrase she always said "Oh Shucks". Nobody could say it like her. Her twin brothers started calling her by her nickname "Pie" as she was sometimes called, especially by her sister-in-law. She also loved to go fishing with her sisters and friends.

Mary departed this life on Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. in her daughter's home, surrounded by family members. She leaves to cherish her memories: husband, Willie T. Sykes, their two children, Carolyn Jeanette Daugherty and Glenn C. Sykes (Mary); eighteen grandchildren, Katina, Mia, Michael, Christopher, Donn y, Tori, Brenda, ReShada, Kia, Deandrick, Franshada, Cory, Aja, Dakota, Javori, twins Jordan and Jamal, Jakai; twenty-one great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law, Lucy Ann Casson; one brother-in-law, Ben Steele; special friends, Pearl Taylor, Velma Tillman, Mary Wellington; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
