Hoy Pride Obituary

Hoy Pride was born on May 5, 1925, in Vincent, Arkansas and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. He worked at Fisher Aircraft Corporation prior to entering the Navy. Later, he worked for the United States Postal Service from 1958-1988 and received an honorable Service Award.

Spiritual Activities He heard Jehovah’s name on his job, and it stuck with him. Later, a young Witness of Jehovah who visited his home offered him a bible study, and he humbly accepted. Subsequently, he was baptized on April 6, 1963. He loved talking to others about God’s Kingdom as the solution to all of mankind’s problems. Hoy would even go to rural areas and preach about the Kingdom. He served as an elder and a full-time pioneer or preacher of God’s word. He selflessly used his large van to go preaching and carried many others with him. It was affectionately called the “Kingdom Express”. He also enjoyed visiting the World Headquarters of Jehovah’s Witnesses in New York and taking several bus trips there with family and friends.

Talents Hoy had many talents and good qualities. Patiently, he taught many to drive. He also enjoyed working on cars. He could play several musical instruments including the saxophone, guitar, piano, and flute. Not surprisingly, he could also sing and previously played in a band.

Family He leaves to mourn: his dear wife, Verlene, who lovingly took care of him in sickness and in health, and she will truly miss his love. Hoy was a father and a father figure to many. Children born to his marriage with Rosie are: Cheri, Paul, Tony, Stanley, and Roland, the latter three preceded him in death. With his marriage to Verlene, he gained five stepchildren. He leaves several grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved him very much. In addition, he will be missed by his large spiritual family.
