Jerry Lee Hornaday Sr. was born on June 8, 1947 to parents Vearl Sr. and Virginia Hornaday in Marion, Indiana. Jerry was the 6th of fourteen children and one of two sets of twins. There were twelve boys and two girls.
Jerry attended Marion High School and was very athletic. He won the Marion State wrestling championship the year he graduated in 1965.
In 1966 he was drafted into the United States Army. While serving Jerry traveled to Germany where he had a successful career in boxing. After three years of service he was honorably discharged in 1969.
In August of 1970 Jerry met and fell in love with Dorothy Washington. They were later married on June 19, 1971 at Holy Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church pastored by the Reverend L. P. O’Hara. From this union were born three children: Chereese, Jerry II and Whitney. In 1972 Jerry was called into the ministry and was officially ordained in 1975.
Jerry attended Vatterott College where he studied electrical engineering. He had such a passion for learning that he also attended Lael University where he built upon his love and knowledge of God’s word.
Jerry was a faithful member of Grow 2 Go Christian Center founded and pastored by Dr. Alfred D. Harvey for many years until he was finally called home on Saturday June 13, 2020.
He is preceded in death by his parents and six brothers. Jerry leaves behind his wife Dorothy, his three children, Chereese Agard, Jerry Hornaday II and Whitney (Dustin) Franklin and his five grandchildren, Lamar Jr, Ramone, Vega, Malach and Jalyhea. He also leaves behind 6 siblings, Mearle Marks in Indianapolis, IN, Gladys Sheron in Flint, MI, John Hornaday Sr. (Sylvia) in St. Louis, MO, Paul Hornaday in Tulsa, OK, Darrell Hornaday (Cheryl) in Las Vegas, NV, Charles Hornaday in Las Vegas, NV and Edward Hornaday in Flint, MI and a hosts of cousins, nieces and nephews.
