Deacon Lloyd Taylor, Sr. Obituary

DEACON LLOYD JEROME TAYLOR, SR., was one of 14 children born to Lilllian Wilson and Luther Taylor on May 7, 1938 in St. Louis, Missouri. His parents and all his siblings Ernestine AKA Tina, Faith AKA Fay, Lois, Loretta, Dorothy, Paul, Morris, Duke, Lester, Luther Jr., Johnny, Sylvester, Isaac, and John all preceded him in death.

He went to Lutheran School and was further educated in Vocational Training School. He went to Metropolitan Sewer District Nelson Plumbing where he received training to become a Plumber for over 40 years. Deacon Taylor was an entrepreneur, truly enjoyed his work, and didn't have a lazy bone in his body. God blessed him with a gift and ability to fix anything which earned him the nickname "Homemade." If "Homemade" couldn't fix it, then it couldn't be done. He was persistent and determined to fix it and make it work.

Deacon Taylor gave his life to Christ and was baptized in the Name of Jesus under the leadership of the late District Elder John Cornell. He received the precious gift of the Holy Ghost and was rooted in the church for over 30 years. Deacon Taylor worked tirelessly in the church, doing whatever he was asked to do and always had a song in his heart. Elder Cornell ordained him a Deacon and often referred to him as the singing Deacon. Deacon Taylor had a beautiful voice and loved to sing.

Deacon Taylor married Vanessa Johnson September 21, 1987 and the two were inseparable for 33 years. He later joined Faith Miracle Temple, where his wife attended and loved his pastors - Bishop Larry Baylor and Dr. Marlon Baylor. Deacon Taylor drove the church van for FMT for many years, transporting the saints to church and church events. He enjoyed opening up the church on Prairie and would often sing the song, "Everybody Ought To Go To Sunday School." He also loved singing with the "Wings of Faith," the male chorus of FMT. He kept asking, "When are we going back to church," as he loved to sing and praise the Lord and shout all over the church. He went until he could not go anymore. His favorite song was "You Saw Me Crying in the Chapel," which the words are so befitting of his final days. On Tuesday, December 29, Deacon Taylor was called from labor to reward and to sing in the heavenly choir.

Deacon Taylor was also preceded in death by his sons, Lloyd J. Taylor, Jr., Floyd Taylor and Orlando Hill; daughters, Sandra Taylor and Vera Russel.

Continuing his legacy and celebrating his life are his loving and devoted wife of 33 years, Minister Vanessa Taylor; daughters, Shantania Banks (Richard), Cynthia Bradley Qames), Joyce Taylor (Ernest), Carol Taylor, and Shirley Taylor; sons, Lou Hill and Trey Hill; sister-in-law, Margaret Boyd (Charles) of Springfield, IL; brother-in-law William Johnson of St. Louis, MO, special grandchildren, Jasmine Qae), Odis, Richetta, Ralphel; great grandchildren, Skye Baby Jace, Baby Jae, Omara, and A.J.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren all of whom he loved dearly and were close to his heart.
