ALONZO DAY, lovingly known as Lonnie, was born June 10, 1955 to Dolores Day and Alonzo Thornton Anderson. His mother, father, and brother (Lawrence) preceded him death. Lonnie departed this life on June 10, 2020.
Lonnie attended Mark Twain Elementary School, Walbridge for Junior High, and graduated from Northwest High School.
In 1973, Lonnie joined the Marine Corp. and was stationed at Camp Pendleton in California and in Okinawa, Japan. He once told his brother, Howard, "California will be the death of me." He simply fell in love with the state, ( especially Los Angeles), and lived there for the rest of his life. He often visited his family and friends in St. Louis, as well as traveling to many other places. Growing up, Lonnie played baseball with the Herbert Hoover Boys Club, and at Northwest High School.
Lonnie was a member of the West Angeles Church of God In Christ, under the leadership of Bishop Charles Blake. He often spoke of the many people he met, some of which were movie stars, athletes, and politicians, who attended the same church.
While living in California, Lonnie attended Los Angeles City College, where he earned an Associate's Degree. He worked for the Veteran's Association. He would have obtained his Bachelor's Degree in 2021 so that he could counsel drug abuse victims.
Alonzo leaves to cherish his memory, his older brother, Willie Day Jr. (Sarah); his sister, Patricia Reed; sister, Norma Anderson (Luvell); brother, Howard Day (Alma); and brother, David Day. He has one remaining aunt and uncle, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
