Michael James Simmons

On Monday, September 30, 2019, Michael James Simmons, loving husband and father, passed away at the age of 74.

Michael was born on December 6, 1944, to Gracie Mae Simmons and Charles Boyd. He was reared  in  Prospect  Hill,  MO  and later moved to Kinloch, MO. He was preceded in death by both parents, two brothers, Lester Simmons  and  Robert  Simmons; and one son, Michael Simmons Jr.

Michael moved to Kinloch at an early age and attended the Kinloch School District. He confessed his life to Christ at  an early age at Prospect Hill Baptist Church.

Michael married the love of his life, Lavonna Gibbs (Sherry), in 1976 and to this union, one son was born.

Michael was a great father and grandfather. He was especially fond of all his grandchildren and would let you know  whenever he got a chance. He was always very supportive and positive with his grandchildren. He would remind them that  they could  do anything because their grandpa loved them.

Michael was known for his love of music, his style of dress, his love to take long car rides, his skills on a barbecue grill, his love for drawing and his generosity to others. He had a special love  for fast cars. If you knew Michael, you  knew  he  could  talk about cars for hours, it brought him great joy to share that knowledge.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory: wife, Lavonna Simmons (Sherry); son, Kareem Simmons (Tamara); four grandchildren, Kaleb Simmons, Kalil Simmons, Chase Simmons and Reign Simmons; one sister, Juanita Owens; and a host of cousins,  nieces, nephews and friends.
