Chester (“Max”) Davis passed away peacefully on November 6, 2019, surrounded by his loving family. Born September 27,1948, to Chester& Lola Davis in Newport, Arkansas, a majority of his early years were spent in Newport. His family later moved to Bald Knob, Arkansas, where Max graduated from Bald Knob High School in 1966. After briefly attending Harding University and the University of Central Arkansas, Max enlisted in the United States Army, where he served for four years before being honorably discharged. Following his service, Max joined the Little Rock Police Department, where he served with honor for two years before transitioning to the United States Coast Guard, where he proudly served for 18 years. After serving our country for a combined 22 years of military service, Max retired from the United States Coast Guard in 1994. Following retirement from the service, Max worked for the Federal Government and the City of St. Louis until his final retirement in 2007.
Max is survived by his wife, Buena Davis of St. Louis, Missouri; father, Chester Davis of Bald Knob, Arkansas; his son, Justin (Abigail) Davis of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and his sister, Sandra (Davis) Vann of Fayetteville, Arkansas. Max is preceded in death by his mother, Lola (Beeler) Davis.
Max was an avid reader and lover of history. He had a sharp mind that was matched only by his wit. Max touched many people and will be missed byfamily, friends, and all those he came in contact with.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorials be sent to the St. Louis Public Library in Chester (“Max”) Davis’ name.
