Carolyn Towles Obituary

Carolyn Towles was born on May 28, 1948 in Brownsville, TN. She was the fourth of five children born to Gilbert Douglas and Candis Singleton Douglas. Her father preceded her in death.

She was baptized at an early age at St. Peters Methodist Church in Brownsville.

Carolyn's family moved to St. Louis in the mid 1950's. She attended Eugene Field Elementary School and graduated from Soldan High School in June 1966. Carolyn joined the workforce upon graduation and went to work for Southwestern Bell. She received several promotions over a period of 46 years during her time at what is now AT&T. Carolyn received her bachelor's degree from Webster University in 1994.

She was married to Raymond Towles with whom she had two children. Maurio Towles and Dawn Towles-Richards.

Carolyn served in many positions in her churches in both St. Louis, MO and San Antonio, TX. She joined St. Paul UMC in 1999. Between the two churches she has served as Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member, Church School Superintendent, Vacation Bible School Coordinator, SPPRC Chair, Nominations and Leadership Development, Steward Coordinator, Voices of Grace choir, Women's Day co-chair and chair. Her passion is to work with children because they are our future and we should never give up on any of them.

Carolyn was a woman of impeccable style and grace. Her hobbies included decorating, gardening, and reading. She was loved, respected, and admired by those who knew her. Her children and grandchildren adored her.

Carolyn leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Maurio and Dawn; grandchildren, Lance II and Brianna; her mother, Candis Douglas; two brothers, Gilbert (Kilcha) Douglas, Jr. and Leonard (Elzora) Douglas; two sisters, Iona Abram and Temple Douglas; one brother-in-law, Bill Ivery; a very special friend, Ken Lowe; four nieces, three nephews, and a host of other family members, colleagues, and dear friends.
