ALECK (AL) ASKEW was born December 31, 1932 in Mason, Tennessee to Willie and Agnes Hudson Askew.
Al spent the majority of his formative years in Mason, Tennessee. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean conflict.
Possessing a persuasive personality, Al later became, and is still recognized as, one of Levitz Furniture's top performing salespersons. Determined to chart his own destiny, he started a carpet installation business that became quite successful. The entrepreneur in Al peaked when he opened Al's Place, which he operated for thirty-five years.
Although he was committed to running successful businesses, he was never so busy that he could not find a quiet riverbank to fish on. To feed his competitive nature, Al would identify those who fancied themselves expert at billiards and dominos, and then take them to school.
Relatives and friends closest to Al remember him as charitable to those in need, persistent, hard working, self reliant and dependable.

William, Rosalee Mayfield, Robert Lee Askew, Erma Askew, Emmanuel Askew; two cousins, Rossi and Walter Lee, who were considered to be like brothers; and Duran Bailey whom he raised as his son.
